Dudley College of Technology

Background

Dudley College of Technology, a beacon of educational excellence since 1931, has been consistently evolving to meet the modern demands of further education. With multiple campuses across Dudley and a student body of approximately 12,000, the college sought a significant upgrade of its café and servery areas at two of its prominent sites: The Broadway Campus and The Construction and Technology (CAT) Centre.

Objective

Our mission was to completely refurbish the café and servery areas at both locations. The aim was to modernise these spaces with a contemporary design, enhance capacity, and complete this transformation within the restrictive timeline of the summer holiday period, all while working in close collaboration with the college and Overbury, their main contractor.

Implementation

1. The Broadway Campus Enhancements:‍

• Installation of a new front counter featuring separate sections for chilled, heated, and ambient displays, plus a dedicated area for condiments.
• Creation of a bespoke rear counter area, accommodating both new and existing kitchen equipment.
• Integration of combination, convection, and high-speed ovens, an ice machine, soup kettle, refrigeration units, and blenders.

2. The CAT Centre Upgrades:

• evelopment of a new front servery counter, mirroring the Broadway Campus in offering chilled, heated, and ambient displays.
• Custom-designed rear counters tailored to house a combination of new and existing equipment.
• Streamlined incorporation of equipment into both the servery area and the adjacent kitchen.

Outcome

The project culminated in the timely and budget-conscious unveiling of two revitalised servery areas. The college’s satisfaction with these contemporary, capacity-enhanced spaces echoes our commitment to excellence and our ability to deliver complex projects within challenging timelines.
